Optimization of Hybrid Rocket Engines at Politecnico di Torino began in the 1990s. A comprehensive review related research activities carried out last three decades is here presented. After a brief introduction that retraces driving motivations and most significant steps path, more relevant aspects analysis, modeling achieved results are illustrated. First, criteria for propulsion system preliminary design choices (namely propellant combination, feed grain design) summarized engine Then, authors describe in-house tools have been developed used coupled trajectory optimization.
